Clarisonic has been the cleansing brush front runner for a long time now, with many brands bringing out their own version based on the Clarisonic design. The Clarisonic has been an integral part of my beauty regime for years now, currently I'm using the Mia 2 model, but as I’m a bit of skincare junkie and always keen to try new products on the beauty scene, I thought I’d switch it up a bit and try out the Foreo Luna 2. Hopefully my review will help you when deciding which to invest in!

The need to knows:

The Clarisonic is a battery powered, rechargeable vibrating cleansing brush which vibrates up to 300 oscilliations per second. Some may not find a cleansing brush essential to their beauty regime, however I have found that nothing cleans you skin quite like a Clarisonic device. The Mia 2 comes with a brush head, charger, protective plastic travel case and is waterproof so you don't need to worry about taking it in the shower with you. Fully charged, the Mia 2 will give you about 1-2 weeks worth of daily usage.

Clarisonic recommends that you replace your brush head every three months. This is to keep your brush hygienic and also because the bristles will wear down after a while. You can purchase replacements for £21 and have the option to choose from different types to find one which is suited to your skin type. You don't need to purchase anything special to clean your brush head with, simply washing your brush with some of your cleanser will remove any traces of dirt and excess make up.

There are only two settings on the Mia 2, Low and Normal, these are easily controlled by the buttons on the handle. During use the device will pulsate to indicate that it is time to move to another area of the face. If you’re looking for more choice with settings, one of the higher priced devices from the Clarisonic range would be a better option.

  • Easy to use.
  • Brush head options allow for tailoring to different skin types.
  • Removes all traces of dirt, oil and make up residue.
  • Can use on neck and décolleté.

  • Short charge life.
  • Cost/hassle of replacing brush heads.
  • Can be harsh on skin for every day use.

The need to knows:

The Foreo Luna 2 is a new style of cleansing brush to come on the market. Instead of following the nylon brush design as so many do, the Luna has soft silicone touch points that pulse up to 8000 transdermal sonic pulses per minute (that basically means it pulses super fast!). One of the main draws to this product is that not only is it a cleansing brush but has an anti-ageing system on the reverse side. This uses lower pulsations to firm wrinkle prone areas. The Luna 2 comes with a soft fabric travel pouch, a usb charger cable and is fully waterproof. The device will be fully charged after only one hour and will last 450 uses.

There isn't much care required for the Luna, a simple rinse with some soap after use is all thats needed as the silicone touch points are designed to resist bacteria.

The Luna 2 has 12 different intensity settings allowing you tailor your cleansing routine to your skins needs. These are operated by clicking the -/+ buttons on the front of the device. To switch to the anti-ageing mode, you simply press in the centre button and this will change to lower pulsations.

  • Gentle on skin.
  • No extra cost for upkeep/easy care.
  • Long charge life.
  • 2 in 1 device.

  • Doesn't “deep clean” pores.
  • Isn't designed for use on neck and décolleté.

Both are great skincare products and the choice really is a personal preference based on your skin type. For me, I love that the Mia 2 leaves me with that “squeaky clean” feeling however my skin can’t cope with this every day. I find only using the Mia 2 two to three times a week is the perfect balance for my skin. The Luna 2 is ideal for every day use as the silicone touch points are soft and kinder to skin, however it doesn't give that “deep clean” feeling like the Mia.

After only a months use, I can’t say I've noticed too much of a difference in my skin after using the anti-ageing system on the Luna, apart from that it really helps absorb moisturiser into the skin. However, I’m 24 so my skin is still pretty firm all by itself! I’m hoping that it will work as more of a preventative measure to wrinkles but only time will tell.

The Luna charge life is real plus for me as I can be quite forgetful, so not having to remember to charge up all of the time is ideal, especially for travel. It also wins points for being so easy to care for. I don’t have the added cost or hassle of having to go out and buy replacement brush heads.

I’d say the benefits of the Foreo Luna outweigh those of the Clarisonic Mia for me personally. However, I still love the Mia and will continue to use both in my beauty regime; the Mia for deep cleansing and the Luna for every day use.
